One of the deepest desires we all have is to be known fully and love unconditionally. Self examination is a practice that allows us to experience being known on such an intimate level and to ground ourselves in God's love. It is more than reflecting and assessing ourselves. It is the courageous act of inviting God to search us.

Our prayer is simply, "God show me myself from your eyes."

He wants to help us see ourselves more clearly. We seek His wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s guidance as we lean into this practice. Self examination helps us grow in our awareness of God’s presence in our lives while also becoming more self-aware of what is going on within. God knows us intimately and loves us unconditionally. We bring our whole selves to God, the good, the bad, and the ugly knowing that He searches us through a lens of love not a lens of shame.

You have searched me,Lord,

    and you know  me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

    you perceive my thoughts from afar.

- Psalm 139:1-2, NIV

PRACTICES

  • At the end of the day examine God’s presence in your life. Ask God to show you how He was present and reveal any areas you may have missed His presence.

  • Spend some time in prayer and silence asking God to show you the areas you are growing in and the ways you are becoming more like Christ.

  • Spend some time in prayer and silence asking God to show you the areas that you are falling short, or if there’s anything weighing on your heart.
